Notes relating to the older burials in the graveyard will be added and there is a section for information relating to burials where there appear to be no headstone. Extracts from local newspapers have been with the consent of the Belfast News Letter, Ulster Star, Belfast Telegraph and Irish News.

The inscriptions were recorded early in 2012.

1	Erected by Maggie Connor in memory of her father William Connor who died 8th November 1903 aged 72 years also her mother Lena Connor who died 24th January 1903 aged 80 years. Notes: This family resided in the Tullyballydonnell townland. Their family in 1903 included Henry, Fanny and Margaret. The following extract is from the Belfast Newsletter dated 26th October 1874 and appears with permission of the Belfast Newsletter. Spirit Licenses granted at Antrim Quarter Sessions. Ann Jane Hopes, Ballymacrevan, transfer from Edward Hopes, refused. The following also appeared in the Belfast Newsletter dated 8th January 1875 and appears with permission of the Belfast Newsletter Spirit Licenses granted at Antrim Quarter Sessions – Anne Jane Hopes, Ballinderry, new application, granted. After the death of her husband Ann married Joseph Gilmore. She died 17th April 1882. Margaret Jane Hopes daughter of Edward Hopes married Samuel Buchanan. There were a number of legal disputes concerning the assets of Edward Hopes. See Belfast Newsletter — 22-10-1890, 23-01-1891, 12-05-1891, 22-06-1891, 24-06-1891, 17-01-1896, 08-05-1896, 26-01-1897, 04-05-1898 and 28-06-1898.
2	1874. Erected by Ann J. Hopes in memory of beloved husband Edward Hopes who died 21st June, 1874 aged 45 years. Notes: This family resided in the Ballymacrevan townland, Ballinderry. Their family in 1874 included Margaret Jane and Anne.
3	In loving memory of William Crawford Browne who died 3rd Aug 1903 aged 90 years and his wife Mary Browne who predeceased him 1st Feb 1891 aged 88 years also their three children Thomas Coleman Browne who died 17th Jan 1917 aged 68 years Matilda Browne who died 28th Aug 1922 aged 78 years. Rev. William John Browne, A.B. who died 7th Jan 1923 aged 75 years. Notes: This family resided at Moneycrumog townland. Thomas Coleman Browne resided at Cottage Hill, Ballinderry The contents of Cottage Hill were up for auction in June 1857 after the owner Robert Smith died. The following is an extract from the Belfast Newsletter dated 3rd February 1891 and appears with permission of the Belfast Newsletter. Browne- February 1st at her residence Cottage Hill, Ballinderry, Mary Coleman wife of William Crawford Browne. Her remains will be removed for interment in the family burying ground, Middle Church this (Tuesday) morning at eleven o’clock.

William Henry Martin of Ballinderry, to the memory of his beloved son William Robert, who departed this life on the 7th October, 1882 aged 17 years and three months, also his mother Margaret Ann who departed this life 8th Sept 1893 aged 84 years, also the ablove nemaed William Henry Martin who departed this life 28th April 1908 aged 73 years also his wife Ann who departed this life 10th Decr 1908 aged 76 years. Sad hour when in the tomb to fade, The form that most we loved is late, One thought alone sweet couples gives, We know that our Redeemer lives. Notes: William Henry Martin and his wife resided in the townland of Ballyscolly.
6	Erected by Henry Martin in loving memory of his son Nathaniel Johnston, who died 10th June, 1906 aged 3 1/2 years also his father the above named Henry Martin, who died the 9th of November, 1914 aged 46 years also Georgina Martin wife of Henry Martin died 24th March 1925. Suffer little children to come unto me. Notes: In the 1901 census Henry and Georgina were living at Brookland Street, Belfast. He was a commercial clerk to a corn merchant. In 1911 the family were at Rathcoal Street, Belfast. They had been married 10 years with three children born and two living. William Henry aged 9 years and George Frederick aged 6 years lived with them in 1901. At that time Henry was a linen clerk.
7	Erected by James Green, Lurgan in memory of his beloved wife Margaret green who fell asleep in Jesus on 25th June 1894 aged 51 years.
8	Erected by William Thompson of Belfast in memory of his children viz. Samuel Thompson who died 14th Oct 1827 aged 4 years, Elenor Thompson who died Jany 18th 1831 aged 4 years, and Alethea Thompson who died Jan 12th 1831 aged 1 year. Here lieth the remains of the above William Thompson of Belfast who died in May 18?4? aged 55 years also his wife Alicia Thompson who died? Oct 1855 aged 57 years.
9	Erected by Edward Cummins in memory of his father John Cummins who died 27th June 1878 aged 86 also his mother Esther who died 25th December 1880 aged 86 also his brother Richard who died 1st April 1882 aged 65 also his brother David who died 11th March 1867 aged 38 also his brother James who died 24th March 1884 aged 54 also his son Richard Cummins who died 3rd May 1903 aged 17, Sarah Cummins died 3rd June 1911, Edward Cummins died 15th November 1915, also his son John Cummins who died 4th August 1935 aged 52. Elsie Eleanor Cummins who died 22nd April 1974 aged 66. Margaret Cummins who died 21st September 1976 aged 96. Richard Cummins who died 4th November 1990 aged 84. Notes: At the time of his death John Cummins resided in the townland of Aughnakilmoney. His sons were listed as Richard, James, Edward, William Henry and his daughters – Eliza Ann Thompson and Mary Jane Mackay. In the Belfast Newsletter dated 6th August 1851 John Cummins was reported to be a witness in a court case – Edward Nelson v Thomas Walkington. At the time of Richard’s death in 1882 he was residing at Aghnamoney. His brother James was residing in Belfast and William Henry was in new Zealand. Both his sisters, Eliza Ann Thompson and Mary Jane Mackey/Mackay were residing in USA. The following extract is from the Belfast Newsletter dated 3rd April 1882 and appears with permission of the Belfast Newsletter. Cummins – April 1 at Upper Ballinderry, Richard Cummins aged 65 years. His remains will be removed for interment in the Middle Churchyard, this (Monday) morning at ten o’clock. Friends will please accept this intimation. Edward Cummins. In the 1901 census Edward Cummins aged 72 resided in the Aghnamoney townland with his wife Sarah aged 58 and sons Richard 15 years and John 17 years. The 1911 census for the same townland shows that Edward and Sarah were residing there. It states they were married 30 years, they had two children and only one alive.

11	In loving memory of our dear parents Herbert Marshall died 30th Aug 1956. Emily Marshall died 2nd July 1961. Notes: In 1901 census the Marshall family resided at Ballyscolly. They were a methodist family. Robert aged 47 was a farmer and grocer. Also listed – his wife Matilda aged 45, Herbert 23, Rebecca 19, Frederick 14, Violet 13 and Amy 12. In the 1911 census Herbert aged 33 and Emily aged 27 resided in the Ballyscolly townland. They had been married 3 years and had two children – Thelma aged 2 and Eileen aged 1.
12	In memory of John Scott died 23rd April 1890 aged 55 years. Jane Scott wife of above named John Scott died 4th Decr 1905 aged 60 years also Wm. J. Moffatt died 7th Feby 1875 aged 55 years. Notes: Jane Scott resided at Ballyscolly. The headstone is believed to have been erected after her demise. William J. Moffatt was her uncle. There is a reference at the time of his death that John Scott was formerly of Leamington in England. John Scott was a butler in Mallow, County Cork.

14	Martin. In loving memory of James W. Martin, who died 27th January 1954. Also his wife Margaret, who died 8th December 1973. Also their son James died 30th August 1998.
15	The family burying ground of T. Abernethy
16	McClelland. In loving memory of our dear parents John William died 7th April 1964, Mary Elizabeth died 7th June 1975. On the happy golden shore, Where the faithful part no more, When the storms of life are o’er, Meet me there.
17	Close. In loving memory of John Close, Bunker’s Hill, Ballinderry, who died 27th May 1919 also his wife Harriett, who died 14th July 1935, also their daughter Charlotte Close, who died 21st March 1967 and their daughter Annie who died 12th November, 1978. Notes: In 1901 the family were residing at Ballykelly townland. John and Harriett resided with their children Annie 6, Mabel 7, Charlotte 12, Mary 10, James 17, Robert 4, John 18, Thomas 9. John Close was a famer and publican. In 1911 the census states they were married for 32 years and had 12 children. Also residing in the house were a neice – Ryth Close aged 50 who had been born in England and a grand-niece Lily aged 17 who had been born in South Africa.
18	Hazley. In loving memory of our dear son Henry died 7th December 1986 devoted husband of Georgina also his beloved father William James B.E.M. died 4th July 1996 also his devoted mother Evelyn died 2nd July 2001.
19	Beckett. In loving memory of our dear father Samuel Beckett who died 22nd April 1935 also our dear mother Mary E. Beckett who died 2nd January 1947. Notes: The following is an extract from a newspaper cutting, source unknown. Beckett – January 2, 1947 at her residence, Rosewood, Old Road, Upper Ballinderry, Mary E., widow of Samuel Beckett. Funeral on Saturday at 2 pm., to family burying ground, Middle Churchyard, Ballinderry. Deeply regretted by her sorrowing family.
20	Culbert. Erected in loving memory of Eliza Isabella Bournes who died at Ashfield, Lisburn 20th Septr 1886 aged 74 years also her daughter Henrietta Wesley Culbert, the beloved wife of James Culbert who died at Thistlemount, Lisburn 6th April 1904 aged 66 years also James Culbert died 16th July 1908 in his 70th year. Notes: In the 1901 census James Culbert, a relieving officer and Wesleyan resided at Seymour Street, Lisburn with his wife and family – Emily, Henrietta – a teacher, Margaret K a shop assistant and James Henry aged 1 a grandson. James Henry was the son of Carroll Culbert and Elizabeth Culbert. In 1901 Carroll was a pharmaceutical chemist residing at Railway Street, Lisburn. Thistlemount was a house at Antrim Road, Lisburn.
21	Here lieth the body of Ann Culbert wife of James Culbert who departed this life the 28th January 1820 aged 42 years also the above named James Culbert who departed this life 2nd October, 1839 aged 75 years also their son James Culbert who departed this life 20th May 1839 aged 22 years and their son Willm Culbert who departed this life 5th of May 1844 aged 45 years and also of Wilson Culbert their grandson who departed this life 21st January 1844 aged 2 years.
22	Spence. In loving memory of our dear aunt Mary Anna died 3rd June 1992. At rest.
23	In memory of Samuel Walkington born 17th December 1819 died at Kingstown 1st September 1901 also Maria Octavia Walkington his wife born 13th June 1844 died at Ballinderry 16th October, 1934. In memory of Francis John Walkington 2nd February 1918 in his 40th year. In memory of Thomas Walkington who died in 1878 aged 57 years. Interred at Bangor, North Wales also his son Thomas Hincks Walkington died 25th January 1898 aged 29 years. Notes: In the 1901 census Samuel Walkington aged 81 and his wife Maria Octavia aged 56 were residing at Upper Glenageary Road, Kingstown, Dublin. They resided with 3 servants. Maria Octavia had been born in England. In th 1911 census the Walkingtons were still listed at Kingstown – Maria Octavia age 66 a widow, her nephew Francis John Walkington age 41, born in Canada, Margaret Bella Walkington age 38, born in Scotland. They had been married three years and had two children – Francis S.G. age 2 born in Dublin and Dorothy Hincks. Three servants resided with the family. Maria Octavia Walkington died at Oatlands, Ballinderry.
24	Gawley. Treasured memories of a dear daughter and sister Elizabeth (Betty) died 14th October 1948. A devoted husband and father Albert died 29th November 1974. A beloved wife and mother Georgina died 9th September 1995. A dear son, brother and loving husband Harry died 5th September, 2010.
25	The family burying ground of Alexander Marsden. Flower holder – John died 19th November 1992 Flower holder – McNeill Glass dome – In loving memory of our dear mother Henrietta Marsden died 12th October, 1955 from the family circle. In loving memory of Charles McNeill died 29th September, 1964 from his sorrowing wife Eileen.

28	Mockler. The family burying ground of Thomas McLeavy, Fruit Hill, 1881. His son-in-law Edward Mockler died 29th Feb 1929 also his daughter Mary E. ife of Edward Mockler died 29th Jan 1937. Marjorie Grace daughter of the late Edward and Mary Elizabeth Mockler died 7th October 1974 Kathleen Mockler died 9th October 1984 John Mockler died 5th August 1985. Notes: The Mockler family resided in the townland of Aghnamoney. In 1911 Edward and his wife Mary Elizabeth resided with their four children – Mary Kathleen, Grace Marjory, Eileen McLeavy and John. The following is an extract from a newspaper cutting, source unknown. Mockler – February 27, 1929, at his residence, Fruit Hill, Ballinderry, Edward Mockler, Funeral to-day (Friday), 1st March, at 2 o’clock, to the Family Burying-ground, Middle Churchyard, Ballinderry.

30	In memory of Alice Maud Mockler who died 28th April 1895 aged 31 years. Thomas McLeavy Mockler died 26th October, 1922. Notes: Thomas McLeavy Mockler died at Forster Green Hospital. He had been residing at 4 Pakenham Street, Belfast.

Mockler 1st Bn Canadian Inf. 7th May 1915 Notes: Edward Cecil William Mockler is mentioned on the website of the Canadian Bank of Commerce There is also information on him at Canadian Great War Project. His photo and other information about him can be found at Veterans Affairs Canada.
32	Erected by William A. Emerson in memory of his father William Emerson who died 26th November, 1924 aged 79 years also his brother Robert James who died 14th Dec 18?? aged 22 years. Also his mother Agnes Emerson who died 19th January 1929 aged 75 years. Notes: The Emerson family in 1901 and 1911 resided in Emily Place, Belfast. In 1901 William and Agnes resided with their children Mary Ann, Agnes J, William Allen and Eliza. Mary and Agnes were listed as confectionary makers and William was a biscuit packer.

34	Erected by Charles Kidd in memory of his wife Mary died 9th Sept 1891 aged 35 years. The above named Charles Henry Kidd died 3rd April 1927 in his 82 year. William John Kidd died 17th March 1921. Robert William Cordner died 12th November 1951. Ruth Anna Porter died 20th September 1961 aged 89 years.

Evie Ellis 22-Dec-1961 Notes: In 1901 and 1911 the Ellis family resided at Melrose Street, Belfast. They were listed as Methodists. In 1911 John, 45, in the linen business, lived with his wife Mary Letitia 38, Mary Letitia 10, Edith Anne 9 and Eva aged 6.

Their beloved eldest daughter Eileen died 12 Dec 1981. Notes: The following is an extract from a newspaper cutting, source unknown. Walkington – July 7, 1947 at his residence, Oatlands, Upper Ballinderry, Henry, beloved husband of Mary J Walkington. Funeral on Wednesday at 2.30pm to Middle Churchyard. House private – Deeply regretted by his sorrowing wife and family.

45	Leinster. Lavinia Leinster nee Bright died 26-9-1895 aged 42 years. James Leinster husband died 14-11-1931 aged 72 years. Agnes Leinster wife, nee Bush died 15-2-1953 aged 81 years. Erected by N.L. Allen. Notes: James Leinster was the schoolmaster in Ballinderry. In 1901 he was residing in Ballinderry townland with his father-in-law William Henry Bushe. He was aged 70, a farmer and widower. He is believed to be buried at Portmore. James Leinster resided with his wife Agnes, a workmistress in the school. Children from his first marriage resided there – Grace aged 15 and William John aged 14. It is believed a Sarah Lavina Leinster, another daughter, emigrated to Canada c1912. James and Agnes were married c1900.

47	McRoberts. In memory of our loving parents Thomas died 15th April 1960 and Elizabeth died 11th March 1994 also their beloved son and our dear brother Jack died 27th February 2012. Lovingly remembered. Notes: John McRoberts (Jack) died in his 86th year. His funeral service took place at Glenavy Methodist Church, Glenavy. Also his mother Jame Peel who died 23rd Dec 1897 aged 81 also the above named Ezekiel Peel who died 29th Jan 1909, aged 64. Also his son Jonathan Robert, who died 13th Marh 1943. Norah Kathleen wife of Jonathan Robert who died 5th July 1948 also their son-in-law John Beattie Greer who died 30th October 2004. Notes: In 1901 at Legatirriff Ezekiel aged 56 resided with his wife Dorothea aged 40. Ezekiel’s daughters – Edith J, a general grocer aged 19, Amelia W aged 13, and son – Jonathan R aged 6 lived with them, also step daughters Annie R Westfield aged 12 and Maggie E aged 14. In 1911 Jonathan Robert Peel aged 16 and Annie Robina Westfield resided with their sister Sarah Elizabeth A Taylor aged 32, her husband John William S Taylor aged 24 and their son John Ezekiel Peel Taylor at Legatirriff.

63	I know that my Reedeemer liveth. Here rest the remains of Sarah Patterson who died Augt 3rd 1813 age 37 years and of her husband Alexander Patterson who died Dec 13th 1843 in his 80th year. After a separation of more than 30 years their bodies were here reunited in the presence of their three children who afterwards erected this stone in memory of their beloved parents.

John Laughlin Fairbairn died 5th June 1900 and his wife Mary Fairnbairn died 30th Jany 1945 also their loving son Sefton Jury Fairnbairn died 17th October 1957. Notes: The following extract is from the Belfast Newsletter and appears with permission of the Belfast Newsletter. Tisdall – September 8 1946 at her residence, Beechwood, Ballinderry. Jane Mackinnon widow of Rev. Benjamin Tisdall. Funeral tomorrow (Tuesday) at 11.30am to Middle Churchyard, Ballinderry. House private. Deeply regretted. In the 1901 census at Lisburn Road Jane M Tisdall, 40 years, a widow is residing with her sister Mary Fairbairn aged 37 a widow, and Norah Tisdall Fairbairn a daughter aged 11, George a son aged 16 – born in Scotland and working in a chemist’s shop, a son Sefton Jury Fairbairn aged 13 and a son Ian A Baumalyne aged 1. The following extracts appeared in Ballinderry Upper School bazaar book 1913. Mr. Sefton Fairbairn, Beechwood, Ballinderry. "’Tis distance lends enchantment to the view, And robes the mountain in its azure hue." – Campbell. Ian A.B. Fairbairn, Belfast (Methodist College). "Tout le monde vient a celui qui sait attendre." – Napoleon the Great. Ian Fairbairn’s name is on the memorial in Ballinderry Memorial Hall as having served in the Great War. In the 1891 Scottish Census the Fairbairn family are listed as residing at Bute. John L born c1852, Mary 1863, Maggie 1869, George 1885, Sefton J 1888, Norah J 1890

Alan A Ferris died 16th Feby 1917 and his nephew Stephen R Ferris died 9th Sept 1904 also his sister Mary Elizabeth died 13th March 1926. Notes: The Ferris family resided at Ballymaclose. Joseph J is listed as a farmer, having been born in County Londonderry. In 1901 his sister Mary Elizabeth aged 56 years lived with the family. In 1901 Stephen Ferris aged 23 years was a printer stereotyper living in Dunluce Avenue, Belfast. The following extract is from the Belfast Newsletter dated 17th January 1913. Ferris – January 16 at his residence, Ballymaclose, Ballinderry, Joseph J. Ferris. Funeral to the family burying ground, Middle Church, Ballinderry tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon at two o’clock. In the 1911 census Jane Anna Reford, wife of Anthony was residing in Tullyballydonnell with her daughter Mary Elizabeth Taylor aged 29, son in law David Taylor a chartered accountant from Scotland aged 31 and grandchild James Dempster Taylor. In 1901 Agnes Charlotte Forde was resding in Shandon Park with her husband Richard Talbot Forde a bank official. He was originally from Downpatrick. Their family are listed as Leonara T 15, Evelyn A 20, Richard HT 9,Walter R 21. The name John H Reford, M.D. appears on the war memorial in Ballinderry Memorial Hall.

Thomas Hugh M was aged 26 and worked as a Linen warehouse department manager. Annette J Fulton also resided with them. She was aged 55, listed as a relative and worked as a suit finisher.

This is an extract from Christ Church, Derriaghy – a short history of the Parish by W N C Barr. John Herbert Templeton (1925-31). He was born in Belfast. From Derriaghy he went as curate to St. Mary’s, Newry, and in 1934 to the Curacy-in-charge of Dunseverick from which he retired in 1973. He is a noted scholar, obtaining many awards during his college days and since; he holds the degrees of Ph.D. and Litt.M. He became Prebend of Connor in 1958 and Chancellor in 1965. He is the joint author of ‘Anglican Teaching’, an Exposition of the Thirty Nine Articles.

Matilda resided at Glendona, Glenavy. In 1911 Burton Sefton was residing at Deramore Drive, Belfast. He is listed as a cotton cloth agent. His wife was Isabel (nee Thompson) aged 37 in 1911. She had been born in County Tyrone. Burton died on 24th August 1921 and he is buried at Belfast City Cemetery. He is buried there with his son Thomas William Sefton who died 23rd September 1945. He had been residing at 36 Dorchester Park, Belfast. 18 02 1927 Lisburn Standard – Death of Mr. Alfred Sefton The death of Mr. Alfred Sefton, of "Glendona" Glenavy, occurred after a brief illness. The deceased gentleman, who had been in failing health for some time, unfortunately caught a chill which developed into pneumonia, and proved fatal. Mr. Sefton, who was unmarried, had been in business in America, and retired over twenty years ago. He was a son of the late Mr. William Sefton, of "Bunker’s Hill", Ballinderry, brother of the late Mr. Thomas Sefton, president of the Home Insurance Company, New Orleans, and the late Mr. Burton Sefton, who was prominently connected with the linen business in Belfast for many years. The deceased gentleman was a Unionist, and an ardent member of the Church of Ireland. There was a large attendance at the funeral, which took place on Saturday, and the chief mourners were:- Messrs. W. and W.S. Suffern, T.W. and A.B. Sefton, and W. Knox, B.A., LL.D. (nephews), and Mr. J. Fulton (grand-nephew). At the house a brief service was conducted by the Rev. J.A. Kenning, LL.D., T.C.D., while in the church the service was held by the rev. J.W. Minchin, M.A., T.C.D., who also officiated at the graveside.

Thomas Higginson and for 30 years incumbent of Ballinderry who departed this life 23rd May 1789 aged 69 years also his wife Anne who died 21st November 1798 aged 76 years. This monument is erected to his memory by his grandson Henry T Higginson A.M. J.P. Lisburn May 1855. Notes: The following is an extract from the Lisburn Standard dated Friday, January 18, 1924. Lisburn Cathedral and its past rectors by the Dean of Down. The Rev. Thomas Higginson. The Rev. Dobbs was succeeded by the Rev. Thomas Higginson, who was born in County Wexford, son of Thomas Higginson in 1722. He entered T.C.D. 27th January, 1739 aged 17, and got scholarship in 1743. He became Rector of Lisburn in 1775; he was also Vicar of Ballinderry. He married Anne Moore, and had issue Thomas Edward, born 1767. He was also in Holy Orders, and was rector of Lisburn in 1775; he was also Vicar of Ballinderry. He died 22nd June, 1819. He is buried in the graveyard of the Middle Church, Ballinderry, where there is a gravestone with this inscription … Eliza – married Henry Marmion of Lambeg; and secondly Roger Casement of Ballee. Maria – married John Johnston of Dublin. Letitia – married Captain Graydon The house in which the Rev. Thomas Higginson resided at Ballinderry is marked "Woodbrook" in Taylor and Skinner’s Road Map of Ireland. The Rev. Thomas Higginson must have resigned the living of Lisburn long before he died, as his successor was appointed in 1781. He also is buried in the graveyard of the Middle Church, Ballinderry. … The Rev. Thomas Higginson also finds a place in John Wesley’s Journal, Vol 111., page 364 (Everyman’s Library). He came to Lisburn from Carrickfergus and was "agreeably surprised by a visit from Mr. Higginson, Rector of Ballinderry." This was Saturday, 8th April, 1769. The only part of the conversation Wesley writes in his journal is a story told him by the Rector rather discreditable to the Moravians. Let us practise the charity that imputeth no evil and believe that the good man did not write down that story because he previously had a very serious quarrel with that body. I believe Dr. Higginson’s father, or brother, had been agent to the Hertford Estate; but I have not definite information. The only interesting items in the Vestry Book for this period refer to the lighting of the town, which was then the work of the Cathedral Vestry; also the repair of the "Cupola" – tisi, of course, before the present graceful spire was built – at a cost of £18. The Churchwardens had not at that time control of the sittings in Church, for the seat No. 12 on the north side, below the pulpit, one-third of which belonged to Mary Keenan, was sold to Wm. Coulson for three guineas – one to be paid to the Churchwardens, and two to Mary Keenan. But there is a further note that she withheld her consent, and Wm. Coulson had to look for a seat elsewhere.

In 1911 the family resided in the townland of Cluntirriff – Edward aged 80, farmer, wife Elizabeth 67 years, Son Joseph aged 29 and daughter Elizabeth Ellen aged 27. Edward and his wife were married 42 years – 9 children and 8 alive in 1911. Maggie Hessie Johnston died on 5th September 1915 and she is buried in the Cairo War Memorial Cemetery. She served in the Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service reserve. Her name appears on a memorial at St. Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast and Ballinderry Memorial Hall.

397	Erected to the memory of the late Revd. Thos. Ewd. Higginson A.B. Formerly curate of this Parish and last Government chaplains of the French Hugenots at Lisburn. He died 22nd June 1819 aged 52. Also to his wife Jane Higginson who died 7th March 1827 aged 60. This monument is erected as a token of love by their children. Also to Maria their 2nd daughter died 30th March 1855 aged 59. Here also lieth the body of their eldest daughter Margaret wife of the Rev. Edward Leslie who died at Lisburn 13th November 1872 aged 78 years. Also their daughter Jane Frances Higginson who died 23rd December 1889 aged 93 years. Rear: Erected in memory of the Rev. Thomas Higginson and for 30 years incumbent of Ballinderry who departed this life 23rd May 1789 aged 69 years also his wife Anne who died 21st November 1798 aged 76 years. This monument is erected to his memory by his grandson Henry T Higginson A.M. J.P. Lisburn May 1855.
