The following is an extract from the Belfast Newsletter dated Tuesday January 19th 1841. It is reproduced here with permission of the Belfast Newsletter.
The following local names were amongst a list of names in relation to a “Great meeting” in Belfast on 21st January 1841 on the subject of the Irish Registration Bill and The Repeal of the Union.
The undersigned request a meeting of the Nobility, Clergy, Gentry, and other friends of the British Constitution and Connexion, in Antrim, Down and the contiguous Northern counties, to be held in Belfast, upon Thursday, the 21st January 1841, at Eleven o’clock, a.m., for the purpose of expressing their opinion in favour of the principles of Lord Stanley’s Registration Bill, and also in opposition to the attempt now for the first time undisguised made in Ulster, to effect the Repeal of the Union: –
