Notes: In 1911 the Elliott family resided in Islandkelly townland. At that time William was listed as an ex – postman. He and his wife had been married 48 years. They had 8 children and 6 were alive. They had one son Joseph, a postman, and a daughter Elizabeth Jane residing with them.

Notes: In 1911 this family were residing in the Gobrana townland in Glenavy. Philip and his wife Agnes had been married 9 years and at that time had 2 children both born in Ontario, Canada: Victoria and George.

Phillip Higginson is believed to be the son of James Higgins on, a carpenter and his wife Ann.

The Higgins on family left Gobrana and went to reside in the Ballinderry area.

Philip Higginson was married to Agnes usher, a daughter of George Usher.

The following is an obituary obtained from a scrapbook containing newspaper cuttings.

Mr. P Higginson.

Mr Philip Higginson, Lower Ballinderry, who died in the Lagan Valley Hospital, Lisburn, on Saturday at the age of 87 was one of the oldest residents of Ballinderry district. He was a farmer.

A local preacher, Mr. Higginson was a member of Glenavy Methodist Church, a member of the Leaders’ and Quarterly Boards, a representative of Aghadavey Prayer Union, chairman and a foundation member of the Rosevale Mission Hall, Ballinderry and President of Lower Ballinderry Temperance Accordian Band.

Predeceased by his wife some years ago, he is survived by three sons, a daughter, a brother and two sisters.

The funeral took place on Monday from his home to Stoneyford churchyard. The Revs. McM. Carson, Glenavy Methodist Church, R.F.C. Rooney, Dromore, J.B. Lowe, Ballinderry, W.Dale, Antrim and Mr. R. Fraser of the Faith Mission, conducting the services.

Samuel John McConnell who died on 3rd November 1976 was the victim of a shooting at his home at Sycamore Road, Dundrod. He is listed as a victim in the book "Lost Lives" – the stories of the men, women and children who died as a result of the Northern Ireland troubles by David McKitterick, Seamus Kelters, Brian Feeney and Chris Thornton. John Matthew McCourt and Hannah Maria Armstrong were believed to have been married on 14th November 1873 at Ballinderry Presbyterian Church.

John Matthew McCourt was the son of George McCourt and Elizabeth Belshaw who were married at Magheragall Parish Church on 8th January 1837.

Sir Dawson Bates, Minister of Home Affairs, and officials of the Ministry were present and warders acted as pall bearers at the funeral of Mr. Thomas Walker, the Belfast prison warder, who was murdered by gunmen while cycling to the prison on Friday afternoon.

The funeral took place from the residence of deceased’s mother, Ashvale, Stoneyford, to St. John’s Churchyard, Stoneyford.

Mr. William Wellwood, private secretary; Mr. H.C. Montgomery, M.B.E., Assistant secretary to the Ministry, and Mr. R.G. Ronaldson, M.B.E., principal officer in the Ministry, accompanied the minister.

Captain T. Stewart, Governor of the prison, was also in attendance and a detachment of warders under Mr. G.D. Crowe, chief officer, paid their last tribute to an esteemed colleague.

The service at the house and graveside were conducted by Rev. A.V. McCallin, curate – in- charge, Magheragall parish Church, assisted by Rev. T. Rogers, Magheragall Presbyterian Church.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by Mr. T.J. Hadden, castle Street, Lisburn.

Walker – February 14 1947 at her residence, Ashvale, Stoneyford, Lisburn, Agnes, widow of Richard Walker. Funeral tomorrow (Sunday), 16th inst at 2.15pm. House private. Very deeply regretted by her sorrowing family.
